AUDITIONS INTERNSHIP
The Auditions Intern supports the administrative team by assisting with data entry related to auditions and providing on-site support during in-person audition days. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, organized, and eager to gain experience in arts administration and event operations. The Auditions Internship is a 2-month internship in May and June.
SUMMER STRING ACADEMY (SSA) ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNSHIP
The Summer String Academy (SSA) Administrative Intern supports the successful planning and execution of the program by working closely with the Summer String Academy Director and administrative team. Key responsibilities include preparing program materials, coordinating logistics, managing administrative tasks, and maintaining clear communication with students, families, faculty, and staff to ensure an organized and well-run Summer String Academy. The SSA Administrative Internship takes place in late July for two weeks (the week before and week of Summer String Academy).
Summer string academy (SSA) Activities internship
The Summer String Academy (SSA) Activities Intern works closely with the Summer String Academy Director and Administrative Intern to support all aspects of student activities during the program. This role focuses on fostering a positive and engaging environment for students by addressing their social and emotional needs, coordinating daily logistics, maintaining organized operations, and communicating effectively with students, staff, and families to ensure a smooth and enriching Summer String Academy experience. The SSA Activities Internship is a 1 week internship, and takes place the week of Summer String Academy.
MUSIC LIBRARY APPRENTICESHIP
The Music Library Apprentice works closely with the Performance Librarian throughout the summer to prepare all orchestral music in time for the first rehearsal of the season. In this role, the Music Library Apprentice will learn about industry standard music binding techniques, software commonly used in professional music libraries, proof-reading and correcting orchestra parts, and standard music-prep procedures. This apprenticeship is open to university or college students.
JR. MUSIC LIBRARIAN
Jr. Music Librarians volunteer to assist the Performance Librarian prepare parts for the full orchestras' (AYP, AYSO, & AYCO) Spring concerts. Since this role is only needed for a specific amount of time, your main responsibility will be transferring bowings into string parts and, if needed, writing in measure numbers. Don't worry, you will be copying everything from a master set! Volunteer hours will be offered to those that need to satisfy graduation and/or honor society requirements.
Internships - Season & Summer
In addition to the opportunities listed above, at AYPO our Season Internships (September–May) or the Summer Internships (June–August) offer emerging arts administrators the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a leading youth orchestra organization. Interns can serve alongside. Depending on the university requirements, internships are set up to be a paid stipend position (similar to min. wage) and can also fulfill degree internship, practicum, or community service requirements, subject to approval by the school or academic program. Throughout the internship, participants can contribute to rehearsals, concerts, educational initiatives, special events, and organizational operations while building valuable professional experience.
Designed to prepare the next generation of arts leaders, this internship program can be curated to your interests in the arts and combines practical experience with mentorship and professional development. Interns can develop skills in operations, production, marketing & communications, or development while helping advance AYPO's mission.
