Melissa Schexnaydre

What is your current AYPO ensemble?

Symphonic Orchestra (SO), Sinfonietta (AYS), and Percussion Ensemble

What AYPO ensembles have you played in and for how long?

Percussion Ensemble 19-25 | DO/SE 19-20; CO/SO 20--23; AYS/SO 23-25.

What college/university do you plan on attending this fall?

The College of William & Mary, undecided.

What do you hope to do after graduation or your more long-term goals?

“I hope to explore my academic interests, such history, psychology, and English, at William & Mary and discover which subject I'm the most passionate about.”

A favorite, or memorable AYPO experience?

“My favorite experience was performing at the Music For All National Festival in Indianapolis with the percussion ensemble in March 2024. It was awesome to have the opportunity to play in an event with students from across the country and attend professional musicians' clinics and concerts.”

What musician, conductor, or orchestra inspires you and why?

“The musician who inspires me the most is my younger sister. She's a flautist in AYCO this year whose love for music and performance is truly contagious, and I admire her high level of dedication to all things band and orchestra. I'm so grateful to her and the rest of my family for their support and encouragement.”

Your advice for young musicians?

“Embrace the challenge of learning new technique and more complicated pieces, even if it's difficult at first. You'll be proud of yourself for your perseverance and all the progress you've made.”

Congratulations, Elizabeth!
