Melissa Schexnaydre
What is your current AYPO ensemble?
Philharmonic (AYP)
What AYPO ensembles have you played in and for how long?
AYCO 20-21; AYSO 21-22; AYP 22-23, 23-24, & 24-25.
What college/university do you plan on attending this fall?
Dual-Degree Program at Harvard and the New England Conservatory, studying History/Government and Flute Performance.
What do you hope to do after graduation or your more long-term goals?
“Long-term, I hope to forever struggle to untangle my musical interests and aspirations from my dreams of legal service to the nation.”
A favorite, or memorable AYPO experience?
“Some of my favorite AYPO memories are playing side by side with my best friend and oboe extraordinaire, Daniel Yeum. From our days squeaking out notes in elementary school band to shaping beautiful duets in Prokofiev, we’ve come far.”
What musician, conductor, or orchestra inspires you and why?
“Aaron Goldman. My flute teacher has taught me that the limits of expression are limitless, and his effortless musicianship inspires me to seek the same lyricism and palette of colors in my own playing.”
Your advice for young musicians?
“Make all the good mistakes you can, and then blame them on your stand partner.”
Congratulations, Jayden!
