Senior Spotlight: Ella Mead, Viola

Melissa Schexnaydre

What is your current AYPO ensemble?

Philharmonic (AYP).

What AYPO ensembles have you played in and for how long?

AYSE 20-21; AYCO 21-22; AYS 22-23; AYSO 23-24; and AYP 24-25.

What college/university do you plan on attending this fall?

University of Miami - Frost School of Music, studying Modern Artist Development and Entrepreneurship.

What do you hope to do after graduation or your more long-term goals?

“I would like to work in the music business as a songwriter and artist, but I also plan to continue playing viola in chamber groups and local orchestras.”

A favorite, or memorable AYPO experience?

“Probably Doug Martin saying ‘Eminem raps on the front of the beat and Snoop Dog raps on the back of the beat. In this piece we need to be Snoop Dog.’”

What musician, conductor, or orchestra inspires you and why?

“She’s not a classical musician, but Taylor Swift really inspires me. She has one of the greatest work ethics in music, and a great business sense to go with it.”

Your advice for young musicians?

“Don’t compare yourself to others. You can only control your actions, so strive to beat yourself, not another musician.”

Congratulations, Ella!
